DJ Drama stopped by Hot 93.3 a few days ago to promote his Gangsta Grillz 2 album.

I recently had to opportunity to take part in the 2009 South by South West music festival. SXSW is one of the largest music festivals in the world. Thousands of artists, groups and supporters of various music types migrate to Austin each spring to take part. The Hip-Hop aspect of the 2009 festival was the largest its ever been. Below is a link to photo documentation of some of the Hip-Hop happenings that took place as seen by myself.

Featured artists for this project include Bun B, B.O.B. aka Bobby Ray, Mistah Fab, Big Boi, Janell Monae, Balance and Asher Roth.

B.O.B. aka Bobby Ray was in town a few weeks ago for SXSW. He performed a total of six times throughout the week. Below you can watch his main SXSW Showcase at the Austin Music Hall. I had the opportunity to meet B.O.B. and his team a while back and immediately became a fan of what they are doing. As you can see in the video, he isn’t lacking passion.

Be sure to also check out his drummer “Alien”, in the footage. Another talented individual.

KRS One came through The Mohawk Sunday night courtesy of Proper Entertainment. The harsh (cold) weather didn’t stop KRS One and the other performers from putting on a great show and it didn’t stop supporters from showing up. The event was packed. Other performers included Zeale 32, Crew 54, and Brooks City. Austin MC Bavu Blakes was the host for the evening.

A long week on the road lead up to Chamillionaire’s Fly Rydes shop in Houston this past Sunday. The occasion, a basketball game featuring Chamillionaire’s Chamillitary/Fly Rydes team versus the The Box (97.9) team. Captains for the teams were Chamillionaire and J-Mac. Chamillionaire invited all of Houston, as well as everyone else, to his shop on the north side of Houston for free food, autograph signing, pictures, and the heavily promoted basketball game. The event was packed full of people as were the roads to the shop. The bets were official, if the Chamillitary team lost, Chamillionaire would pimp a fans ride. If they won, J-Mac would wash cars for half a day. In the end, the Chamillitary team ended up with the victory.

Chamillionaire’s latest project, Mixtape Messiah 6 [ which features our photo work ], officially dropped on Tuesday. To kick off his promo tour for the project Cham did two in-store autograph signings in the Central Texas area, both in the same day. The first was held at Sundance Records in San Marcos during the afternoon and the second was, in the evening, at Piranha Records in Round Rock. After the Sundance event, we headed to the Piranha Records in-store. Again there, Cham chatted with fans, signed autographs and took photos. Both of the events were packed full of supporters with very large lines out out the front doors of both stores.

Chamillionaire and camp will be back in Austin on Friday (01/16) for a 7PM in-store at Music Mania. All of these events are apart of the promotion for his album, “Venom” which will be out soon.

I’m pleased to announce that I was recently named one of the winners of the 2008 Billboard Magazine and PDN (Photo District News) Summer Music Moment – Ultimate Music Photography Contest. The judges selected the David Banner photo featured above as one of the winning image selected out of over 2,000 submissions.

The captured moment took place at the 2008 SXSW Music Festival in Austin and is currently featured in the December issue of PDN magazine and will also be in a gallery on the Billboard and PDN sites later this month.

Being named one of the Billboard and PDN photo contest winners is a blessing. My team and I work very hard for all of the content we produce, so having our work showcased and recognized is something I am grateful for.

Ice Cube came through Austin this past weekend for a show at The Mohawk. The packed event was courtesy of Transmission Entertainment. Austin’s own Gerald G was one of the openers. The venue was full of Cube fans. Dub C was on hand as well and joined Cube during his set. Another great Austin show…
